Funny Women

This International Women’s Day, we’re once more attempting to change the narrative, this time tackling another field usually associated with masculinity – Technology – and acknowledge the contribution that women have made to technological advancement.

We’re joining forces with Techerati and Closer Still Media to bring you another instalment of HERlarious, an evening of workshops, panel discussions and comedy. You can read more about the workshops you can take part in and facilitators here and find out how to get involved below.

STAND UP TO STAND OUT

Lynne Parker, award-winning producer and creator of Funny Women, knows humour is essential in business today as it is in our personal lives. In Stand Up to Stand Out you’ll find ways to present yourself in a more relaxed, authentic style and develop your own personal story. Improve your self-confidence and esteem, communicate more effectively and memorably, and find out how to engage with passion.

CAN YOU FEEL IT?!: GET YOUR BUSINESS MOJO RUNNING

To stand out requires a level of confidence in your skills, knowledge and abilities as well as confidence in how you feel. People who stand out, for the right reasons, know that how they feel about themselves has a direct impact on their day to day performance in whatever they do. They are resilient, know their strategies of how to get up after a knock and they know how to use their energy levels throughout the day to get the best out of themselves…they work with their MOJO! Tracey Barr is a leading independent strategy consultant with over 30 years’ experience of providing expert advice and project leadership, management and support to a diverse range of strategic and business development projects.

SPEAK UP IN PUBLIC: HOW TO RESURRECT YOURSELF WHEN YOU ‘DIE’ ON STAGE

A New York Times survey in 1984 placed death third in a list of people’s biggest fears. The first two were walking into a room full of strangers and speaking in public. So, what’s the worst that can happen? Learn how comedians bounce back when they metaphorically ‘die’ on stage and face up to the almost universal fear of getting your voice heard. Rachel Creeger is an award-winning comedian, director and writer whose work has been seen across the UK and internationally. A sought-after speaker and educator, she has delivered workshops and team building sessions for conferences, corporate events and festivals and provides speech writing and performance coaching.

OWNING YOUR DIVERSITY

Increase your confidence in the workplace and feel more empowered by owning exactly who you are in respect of culture, gender, age, ability and background. Explore how promoting your own individuality can feed into the diversity of the working environment you inhabit and use your experience to develop talent and build teams. Mariana Feijó is a London-based comedian, who co-produces queer, female and immigrant comedy nights all across town, developed with the objective of showcasing diversity and Becky Singh is a Scottish-Caribbean Londoner and comedy producer working for over 20 years in the UK, US, France, Canada and Ireland.

After the workshops there will be a discussion on the impact have women had on the world of technology, hosted by Kirsty Cooke, Head of Digital Content (UK) at Kantar, the marketing insights and consulting company with Sarah Williams Gardener, founding member of Starling Bank, Richard Freeman, lead data and machine learning engineer at JustGiving and Genevieve Leveille, Principal Founder and CEO of AgriLedger. Topping it all off with a talk by Deb Leary OBE, founder and CEO of the award-winning Forensic Pathways specialising in digital forensics, fraud and due diligence investigation, and one of the funniest techies we know.

Techerati HERlarious takes place on Tuesday 12th March at ExCel London. Details of the evening which combines workshops, networking, panel discussions and live comedy are on our event page here.
