Uncle Glen’s Menagerie returns to the Arcola theatre on Sunday 25th November, hosted by and featuring Funny Women Awards finalist and acclaimed comedian Alison Thea-Skot.
This is the show where a rotating cast of actors and comedians are thrown together on stage for one night only, performing scenes from theatre, film and television. One performer has the script, the other knows nothing about what they are stepping into…
Uncle Glen’s has played regularly in London, and as a sell-out show at the Underbelly in Edinburgh, and has featured award-winning actors from theatre (The National Theatre, Donmar Warehouse, RSC, Out of Joint, Cheek by Jowl), West End shows (The Ferryman, 1984, The Donmar Shakespeare Trilogy, Austentatious) and TV hits (Game of Thrones, Dr Who, W1A, The Night Manager, War and Peace, Downton Abbey, The Office.)
The show plays with the idea that we don’t have to accept the roles we’re handed. Regardless of the script used, words on the page are only the starting point — each scene may veer in an entirely new direction. This is an evening of real excitement — even in scenes that resemble the original, both performers know they can be surprised at any moment.
In this night of theatrical comedy, off-the-cuff dialogue sits alongside funny and moving language by some of greatest contemporary playwrights and screenwriters – allowing the performer who steps in to throw their own comedic spin on it, with both actors kept on their feet throughout. Brand new hilarious scenes are created on the spot, never to be seen again!
Sunday’s show marks a return to the main stage of the Arcola Theatre and sees comedians and improvisers (Austentatious, Massive Dad, Borderline, Do Not Adjust Your Stage) alongside a host of acting talent from theatre (National Theatre, The Globe, The RSC, Royal Court) and film/television (Flowers, Sherlock, Assassins Creed, Outlander, Black Mirror, Call the Midwife, Humans, Jamestown and Informer).
