It’s finally here, just as Richard Herring promised in March, today is International Men’s Day, the day aims to raise awareness of male issues, such as suicide which is the biggest killer of men aged 45 and under, as well as praise men making a positive difference to the world. This year’s theme is Positive Male Role Models, so in a departure from our usual content, the Funny Women team decided to put together a list of men in comedy who we love.
In no particular order…
Arnab Chanda – a 2017 Funny Women Awards mentor.
Phil Nichol – another 2017 Funny Women Awards mentor.
Joe Lycett – who was kind enough to send us a message of support at our event in Warwick last week (we also love when he and Katherine Ryan work together).
David O’Doherty – for his support of women.
Jonathan Ross – for his demand for pay parity with Katherine Ryan
Jim Jefferies – for his US show episode dedicated to the Repeal the 8th campaign.
Rob Delaney – for being an outspoken feminist.
Terry Crews – For his support of the #MeToo movement
Jeremy Front – who writes BBC Radio 4’s Incredible Women with his sister Rebecca Front.
Andy Samberg – for being a producer on Brooklyn 99 a show that gives equal airtime, plot and jokes to the women characters.
Michael Palin – who admitted to Tracey Ullman that he thinks the lack of women in Monty Python material was because they were rather scared of them!
Frankie Boyle – most recently for his support of Lolly Adefope on Twitter and investment in diversity in comedy.
Nish Kumar – @hurricane_ros says: “a feminist, a promoter of women, a necessary voice about the state of the world.”
Any suggestions, or men we’ve missed out? Tweet us on @funnywomen and we’ll add them here!
