This Wednesday 26th September We are making a bit of comedy noise at ad:tech London, the UK’s global gathering of marketing and advertising technology players and one of the largest destination events anywhere in the UK.
This is a very exciting platform for us ahead of the launch of HERlarious, our initiative to bring female comedy and creative professionals together to change the narrative in advertising, on Tuesday 9th October at BBH London.
We recognise that technology is playing a major part in the reshaping of advertising so we want to ensure that women have a strong and authentic voice in our increasingly connected world.
Advertisers are looking for powerful new ways to build new communities and drive fresh customer interest so we are looking forward to meeting a host of curious brand, agency and media leaders at ad:tech London and be inspired by revolutionary ideas that are now within the realm of the possible.
First up for us is a panel discussion about the Misrepresentation of Women in Media, a topic close to our hearts and that of our founder, Lynne Parker, who will be joining in the debate.
We are living through what is potentially the strongest movement for gender equality in recent times across all industries, but it is time to challenge the way we portray women in the media. If a brand creates a humorous campaign, why is it that a man will more often than not front that campaign? How much is really being done to encourage women into tech? When advertising technology is sophisticated enough to help brands create incredibly targeted campaigns, this panel discusses whether 50% of the world’s population is still being misrepresented.
Following fast on the toes of these top commentators Lynne takes it all one step further with her own exploration in the Directors Club on the Curse of the Alpha Woman. Leadership for women is still accompanied by a backlash of veiled abuse, misogyny and worse. Yet, women’s voices are brave, powerful and often funny. Lynne explores how our innate feminine humour is changing the landscape and how to get men to really listen and engage with what we say.
As if that’s not enough business excitement for one day, we finish it all off with a showcase of comedy from the Funny Women Awards. Pauline Eyre, Jodie Mitchell and Harriet Braine (2016 Stage Award winner) will be putting the ‘alpha woman’ challenge to the test and making sure that delegates get some laughs of the feminine kind.
