Lazy Susan are Celeste Dring and Freya Parker, a sketch duo composed of two short women, who are experienced Edinburgh performers, having been newcomers in 2014. I fear I may have said too much already!
Both performers are committed and good actors that successfully bring their material to life. Their sketch show spans themes of womanhood, independence and the inevitable neurosis provoked by current times. However, don’t expect the same old reactions to the news narrative as Celeste and Freya manage to create an original take of their own.
The show reveals itself to be a sort of, maybe, could be, murder mystery in which seemingly independent sketches end up being weaved together within a story in what is a very satisfying story. There’s a sense of suspense the whole way through, with very cinematic imagery. Noir in style and dark in comedy, the show is silly, surreal and very funny.
With some twists and turns and some well played audience interaction, this show truly deserves the “well written” epithet and I’d believe it if they told me they had storyboarded the whole thing. It’s also way better experienced than talked about, so be sure to check it out!
