New York based stand-up comedian Jacqueline Novak makes her UK debut at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
She starts by introducing herself to an audience of strangers and the best way to do that is to put all your shortcomings up front, from her ADHD to some issues with body confidence and impossible beauty standards, Jacqueline covers it all.
What seems like a nervous comedian trying to find her feet with a quiet audience, quickly reveals itself as an experienced performer who knows how to trick the audience who’s there to judge her, to be on her side and open themselves up for laughter.
As she dives into her material, the seemingly shy comedian goes into very intimate subjects in a way that is both crass and innocent. Even when she’s acting out blow jobs and masturbation, she does it with a sense of wonder and excitement, that feels very refreshing, as this are usually used to shock the audience and not to invite them in the joy of discovery of the small pleasures of life.
Jacqueline Novak brings you an almost intellectual study of blowjobs, and she does it in a shyly, confident way that is both funny and endearing in a very satisfying way.
