Vivalicious is all about Viv Groskop’s addiction to self-help books and the legend that is Oprah Winfrey. Or rather, the legend who will hopefully soon be President Oprah Winfrey. So enthusiastic about Oprah is Viv that she has subscribed to her magazine and attended an Oprah convention and the show features quite an involved rundown of Oprah’s professional history.
For someone as accomplished as Viv it seems quite surprising to find out she feels a need to read such books, however, her fascination with the genre started early as her parents seem to think the books make a good gift for a youth. What an organised and empowered child this might make for, however with all the conflicting advice it’s hard to know whose path to follow.
Somehow all the wisdom Viv has read seems to have been passed on. It doesn’t surprise me in the least that Viv’s kids are wise beyond their years, summing up self-help books they can’t have read yet succinctly and to their mother’s shock.
Perhaps it was the stuffiness of the room, but the audience didn’t seem to really respond enthusiastically to Viv’s personable wit – bar one man who for reasons unclear decided to whip his top off when instructed to remove a layer as the room gets hot. Viv is an engaging and confident performer who you can’t fail to enjoy.
