After an earlier tweet where 2015 Funny Women Semi-Finalist, Bryony Twydle proclaimed being an emotionally exhausted, broken woman, excitedly awaiting her day off, I was happily surprised to see an energetic performer jump on stage and deliver a fast-paced and quick-witted show.
We are introduced to six different characters that at the start are seemingly independent, the only characteristic they have in common is a penchant for darkness and a very blunt nature. Throughout the show, we are made aware of the connections between all the characters which felt very satisfying.
The audience loved it, even when made to work for it, by being pulled on stage and act out scenes with the comedian. Even though you can never 100% predict what the volunteers chosen to participate will say or do, very little was left to chance and they were well directed to do what was asked of them.
Alone on stage, away from her sketch groups, on her first solo hour, Bryony Twydle shows us the range of characters she can play. From different accents to facial expressions and body language, there’s a defined identity to each of the different people brought on to the scene. A well rounded one person sketch show with no lulls and a big finish. I’ll be trying out all the beauty products on offer and totally following the sex therapy tips. Yes, you do have to see the show to know what I’m talking about!
