I was introduced to Iliza Shlesinger’s stand up just over a year ago. I fell in love with her wacky persona and hilarious, outright attitude. Elder Millennial did not disappoint, I got exactly what I came here for.

With her fourth Netflix special, Iliza is back with her eccentric voices and sounds and cut-throat honesty. This time drawing on dating, body image and the wonders of the early 2000’s.

In her first special since 2016, Iliza immediately reminds us that she is the queen of impressions. Her expressions and voices will have you hooked. If you want anyone to read your kids a bedtime story, I recommend Iliza.

35 and engaged (at the time of filming), Iliza presents us with a new outlook on life starting with the question posed to her so many times, “so, how did you guys meet?” Not necessarily a real question to her, more of a quest for all the single women out there to a path of secrets to love.

Looking back on the single life she recounts the honesty of women hunting in packs – “There’s six of you, he’s terrified”, and the idealism of the damsel in distress, likening the traditional fairy tale woman to a wounded gazelle.

In her traditional quirky style, Iliza tells a light-hearted feminist story that prompts the response, ‘It’s funny because its true’.

Once again she notes many differences between men and women. On the topic of rejection, she underlines that it is easier and more frequent for men, whereas women use that rejection for a reason as to why we are “the weird brand of fucked up that we are now.”

In a charismatic expression of movement Iliza sets the scene for the first time a guy comes over to your house, and most importantly, captures the she-dragon that emerges when he finally leaves.

Iliza is a natural captivator of attention, her exciting and hilarious movements will have your eyes on her at all times.

Whether you relate to her or not, after you watch Elder Millenial, I can guarantee you’ll be excited to do two things, embrace your inner she-dragon and learn a damn good (really annoying) peacock impression.

Iliza Shlesinger: Elder Millenial is streaming on Netflix now!
