Maisie Adam has been announced this year’s So You Think You’re Funny? winner. Her prize includes £2500 cash, a trip to Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival, Bergen’s Humour Fest and a run at the 2018 Fringe!
Maisie, whose comedy heroes are Victoria Wood, Lucille Ball, Peter Kay, Mickey Flanagan and her nan, said that winning the competition was “the most surreal experience of my life ever.”
Sarah Mann, a Time of the Month regular and professional trombone player, was named first runner-up, winning £1500. Morgan Rees came second runner-up and won £1000.
The three beat stiff competition from Amira Saied, Archie Henderson, Eric Rushton, Esther Manito, Jamie D’Souza, Kirsten Brown and Robin Allender.
So You Think Your Funny? has been going for 30 years and is open to new comedians, with past winners including Dylan Moran, Miles Jupp, Tom Allen, Rhona Cameron and last year’s winner Heidi Regan – who maintained her winning streak at this year’s BBC New Comedy Award.
This year’s final was hosted by Aisling Bea and judged by the Gilded Balloon’s Karen and Katy Koren, Melbourne International Comedy Festival director Susan Provan, Zoe Rabnett from Montreal’s Just For Laughs, Bruce Dessau, Sunday Times Culture Editor Helen Hawkins and past winner, David O’Doherty.
Congratulations Maisie Adam!
