We can’t believe this year’s Edinburgh Fringe is coming to an end! Every lunch time for the month of August we have been at the Gilded Balloon Teviot for Funny Women Fest with a different set of fabulously funny women, entertaining you all with comedy and chat. All the while raising money and collecting sanitary products from our audience to help erase period poverty in Scotland.
We have had all kinds of women come join us, from New Yorkers Carmen Lynch and Sara Schaefer, to Lauren Pattison, to Viv Groskop, to Austentatious’s Rachel Parris, to 2016 Funny Women Awards winner Desiree Burch and Athena Kugblenu, all of whom have been taking this year’s Fringe by storm!
Our producer Karen Rosie, who has been holding the fort for each and every show, says: “Massive thanks to all the talented, established and emerging, award-winning, critically acclaimed comedy acts who have appeared at Funny Women Fest at Gilded Balloon daily at the unnatural hour of 12 noon! It’s really heartwarming and encouraging to see so many fantastic women performing at the Fringe.”
Tomorrow our host Amy Annette will be joined by guests Sarah Bennetto, Emily Lloyd-Saini, the fantastic improvisational musical comedy group Waiting for the Call (NOTFLIX) and winners of the Amused Moose Awards 2017 The Kagools!
On Friday 25th August we have a themed show, ‘What Would You Fight For?’ with Sajeela Kershi, who is joined by Charmian Hughes, Juliet Meyers, her dog Homer and Shazia Mirza.
Funny Women Fest show audiences have donated at least £250 so far and plenty of sanitary products for the period poverty campaign, begun by Monica Lennon, MSP for Central Scotland and the Scottish Labour Spokesperson on Inequalities. Monica said: “I’m so pleased that access to period products is high on the agenda during this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. Access is a right, not a luxury and no woman should have to go without sanitary products which are essential to their health.”
Funny Women Fest is on at 12 noon until 28th August at the Gilded Ballon, for tickets and more information click here!
