Desiree Burch: Unf*ckable

Given the title of Desiree’s show I knew that we were in for something full on and feisty.  What ensued was an incredible roller coaster of stories and anecdotes from her early life spent working as a dominatrix all without losing her virginity.  We hear about this too, but that comes much later.

If you are squeamish about sex, particularly kinky sex, then this show carries a warning!  You really do have to strap in and enjoy the ride.  Desiree has an energy that is so powerful and charismatic so that when she gets to the messy bits, you laugh along with her at the horror as well as the lunacy.

We cheered, we groaned and we enjoyed the communal non-sexual climax of Desiree’s hilarious tales of working in the sex industry – the spanking and the wanking is all part of her story and I have never seen a room, or in this case a bus, full of women so satisfied.

Desiree is a bold beautiful black woman from the US now residing with us here in the UK.  She eases us in gently to her edgy material with a disarmingly domesticated tale about becoming a cat owner in Croydon which quickly gets the measure of the room.  OK, she’s going to do the hardcore sex stories anyway but there’s nothing like a cat tale to get some empathy and relax the crowd.

I remarked to my colleague that it’s not the kind of show that you want to see with your husband or partner, not because of the content but because you want to enjoy both Desiree’s disdain and desire for the opposite sex from a female perspective.

This show is pure X-rated fun and if she doesn’t take away some awards from this year’s Fringe, there is no justice in this world. Desiree won the Stage category of the Funny Women Awards in 2015 and this show completely validates her huge talent.
