2015 Funny Women Awards finalist Sophie Duker has joined forces with 2016 So You Think You’re Funny? Finalist Sophie Henderson for Soph Opera. It’s a great match, as the pair both possess a natural wit and charm that meant it was easy for them to win over the audience at the end of a hot day.

Sophie Henderson kicked off proceedings – talking about her last relationship and being single. This is well trodden subject matter, Tinder is now the airplane food of comedy topics, but Sophie had a refreshing take on singledom that didn’t revolve around the cliches you hear all too often on the comedy circuit. Sophie also mined some great material from her professional life, it’s frankly impressive to see someone work a Miss Havisham impression so naturally into their set.

Next up in this Soph Opera was Sophie Duker. Having seen Sophie Duker at the Funny Women Finals in 2015, it’s great to see how this talented woman has developed her act. It’s given Sophie time to realise the kind of audience she likes best, not the kind you would expect, no, not us, reader, who make up a cosmopolitan, young and attractive audience. No, Sophie prefers to take her material on race, politics and feminism further afield. The delight she takes in performing to ‘posh’ audiences is indicative of her cheeky take on the world.

This is a comedy pairing you’d like to have round to dinner. Or rather be invited round to dinner, because apparently Sophie Henderson makes an excellent ragu.

Soph Opera is on at Nowhere Man TONIGHT 3rd June at 10.00pm. For more information and tickets click here!
