Amy Schumer is “bummed” to have to pull out of the live action Barbie Movie she was originally signed up to do due to scheduling conflicts. Which, I don’t think, is very Barbie like to be honest; if Barbie can hold down all those careers, vet, teacher, astronaut, I think we can all avoid scheduling conflicts. KIDDING I KNOW BARBIE ISN’T REAL.

It was announced in December that Amy would star in the film as well as contributing a partial rewrite of the script with her sister Kim Caramele.

The actor and comedian was announced as the film’s star in December last year. She and her sister, Kim Caramele, would also be contributing a partial rewrite of the script. However Amy told Variety that “Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts… The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”

The Barbie film will mix animation with live action, following Barbie’s eviction from Barbieland having failed to fit in. Barbie is forced into the real world which leads to an epiphany that perfection comes from the inside and that the key to happiness is to believe in one’s self blablabla. If it were that easy, Barbie, everyone would be doing it. Now leave me to my Botox.

This is not the first setback for the Barbie film, which was originally set to be released early this year. Jenny Bicks wrote the original script before Diablo Cody joined the team for a rewrite in order to bring a “legitimately contemporary tone” to the character. Since then Bert Royal, Hilary Winston and Lindsey Beer have all reportedly been invited to put their pin on the script before Amy and Kim became attached to the project.

The film is now due for release on 29th June 2018, and ought to stay that way because the movie merchandise line has already gone into production, according to Variety.

“We respect and support Amy’s decision,” a Sony spokesperson said in reaction to Amy’s departure. “We look forward to bringing Barbie to the world and sharing updates on casting and film-makers soon.”
