We were at BUILD with Kerry Howard and Zoe Boyle of Witless yesterday where the pair revealed that there would be a third series of the BBC Three “comedy thriller” Witless. Because of how the second series ended “we’d be trolled if we didn’t!” Zoe said. Kerry also told us the exciting news that Witless will be airing on BBC One.

Witless is Zoe’s first comedy role, before the show the actor said she had been more attracted to ‘straight’ roles. Zoe even gave us some drama gossip, the former Downton star said the great Maggie Smith once told her off for using her phone! Kerry revealed that when she read the script for Witless is was she who came up with the name, “because Leanne’s such a moron!”

When asked about the importance of female fronted comedy Kerry said: “The more of a non-issue it is, the bigger strides we are making.” Kerry was inspired to try comedy by Goldie Hawn, Dawn French, Victoria Wood and Caroline Aherne’s character Mrs. Merton, saying “It was a rich time in the 90s for funny women.”

Witless is available to watch on BBC iPlayer
