The women from Birds of a Feather will be jetting off to Morocco for their Christmas special. However the Birds of a Feather team had to use a little bit of…let’s call it seasonal artistic license and actually the scenes were filmed in sunny Malta and… less clement Leighton Buzzard.
Lesley Joseph, who plays the glamorous Dorien said that whilst the show is set in Morocco and filmed in Malta, a friendly camel shortage meant filming proceeded in Bedfordshire. Lesley told The Mirror: “We had scenes with a camel which we couldn’t film in Malta because they didn’t have friendly camels.
“So we had to go to a quarry in Leighton Buzzard, as you do.
“It was hot in Malta, so we had to wear the same clothes in Leighton Buzzard.
“I had a hot water bottle on my back, a heat pack, hand warmers and thermals – it was freezing. We met a camel called Abdul.
“This camel didn’t spit, it was divine. He did pee when I was up on his back though. I was like, ‘Woah, something’s happening’ because you can feel the back move.”
The special features the Chigwell trio, Dorien, Sharon and Tracy heading to North Africa in search of Tracy’s son who is on his gap year. “It turns into a bit of a caper, we meet people who are one thing but turn out to be something else, there are goodies and baddies.
“It’s an hour-long action film, I think it’s like Raiders Of The Lost Ark.”
Birds of a Feather Christmas Special will air on Christmas Eve on ITV
