Dating specifically with the intent of getting married is a thing in Japan. It’s not unusual for couples to tie the knot a year after meeting, or even sooner.
So maybe Laura Bubble – who’s been turning up to first dates in a wedding dress – would have more luck over here.
In the brave pursuit of comedy gold (and donations to Stand Up To Cancer), Laura’s donned the white frock and given plenty of blokes a shock.
It all starts on Tinder – of course it does. Where else does any great comedy adventure begin these days? Laura arranges to meet some of the guys she matches with. But doesn’t let them know how they’ll be able to recognise her. Once they realise who they’re meeting… the reactions are pretty interesting.

I can see some advantages to an approach like this. The first being that it wouldn’t take hours to decide what to wear pre-date. Agonising over the most appropriate dress, shoe and handbag combo would be a thing of the past.
Also, it’s definitely time we banished the tradition of men not getting to see their bride dressed up before the big day. Get it out of the way on the first date, and that’s a decent chunk of wedding nerves gone.
Bravo to the guys who brushed the awkwardness off. Thanks for not having overly strong opinions on what a woman should wear in public. You’ve done us proud.
That said, I don’t totally blame the guys who took one look and ran. Marriage isn’t for everyone, after all. Being honest from the start and not leading a woman on is a good thing. It hurts to discover the truth, but in the long run at least you know where you stand.
Would I go out on a date in a wedding dress?
No. Of course not. I’m far too much of a messy eater, and wearing white is asking for trouble.
