Guys, it’s September already! We’re back from the Edinburgh Fringe having held a weekend of workshops and panels, a regional final and now we’re ready to round up some of our favourite shows (though they were, of course, all our favourites).
This year’s Edinburgh Fringe was a great one for women comedians, with 2013 Funny Women finalist Sam Baines scoring a full run of sell out shows with her first solo hour 1 Woman, A Dwarf Planet & 2 Cox!
2014 Funny Women Awards winner Jayde Adams not only had a fantastic five star show 31 but was shortlisted for the LastMinute.com Edinburgh Best Newcomer Award! The ever creative 2015 Funny Women Awards winner Desiree Burch won the Edinburgh Fringe Poster Award for the dick pic collage image that was her This is Evolution poster. We also saw 2004 Funny Women Awards winner Zoe Lyons’ brilliant new show Little Misfit.
We managed to catch 2015 Funny Women Awards finalist Jane Postlethwaite’s Edinburgh debut Made in Cumbria and met 2013 Funny Women Variety Award winner Sooz Kempner’s new characters. This year’s regional finalists The Travelling Sisters had us giggling with their sketches as did double act Norris & Parker – who managed to get huge laughs in a sweaty and boiling attic.
Regional finalist Cheekykita took us to Tittitutar Town and got five stars for the trip, while Cally Beaton and Catherine Bohart were the cat’s pyjamas in their two hander show Cat Call.
Naturally we had to see some Funny Women favourites, Shappi Khorsandi talked about her family and county in Oh My Country, Viv Groskop wondered if she could Be More Margot, Tessa Waters did not over promise and Tiff Stevenson gets more hilarious with every year – and it’s been seven so far.
We had a fabulous time and can’t wait for August 2017 to come rolling round for more laughs and new comedians!
