2014 Funny Women Awards finalist Sam Baines’s new show 1 Woman, A Dwarf Planet and 2 Cox unites her two passions: science and the arts. Well, three if you include Professor Brian Cox – and in this show Sam shares with the audience her three-step plan to utilising her love of science and the arts to make Brian notice her.
Sam likes to be a giant leap ahead she reckons the best way to impress the physicist would be to become an astronaut. She’s done her research (two Open University courses and a satellite load of reading!) and it turns out that just being a woman makes her better qualified than Brian to survive in space.
If you like puns, then this is the show for you as Sam has thought of every space-based pun on earth…and beyond! Sam effortlessly mingles science facts, feminism, puns and a high standard of audience interaction making her show stand out from others. Her rude material or as she calls it her ‘astronaughties’ punctuate the fact finding mission proving that science can be edgy and fun! This show isn’t just about her. It’s educational and thought provoking, which is a refreshing change from most self-obsessed shows on the fringe.
And as you journey with Sam through time and space the message becomes clear that women don’t need men in order to do amazing things for the development of this planet. We just need recognition from our fellow humans to know that we’re doing a good job! Well Sam Baines, you’ve done a sterling job in bringing all those wonderful facts, figures and prolific women to our attention in one glorious hour of brilliant comedy, and we salute you for it.
