Cheekykita takes us to Tittitutar Town

Similarities to the Mighty Boosh and Spike Milligan notwithstanding, it takes a very special performer to pull off a show of utter silliness and retain artistic integrity. Cheekykita not only does this very successfully, she also does it single handedly and with as much aplomb as some my past Fringe faves.

Both We Are Klang and Pappies Fun Club, comprised of three to four men a piece and were up there in terms of mad and surreal but their shows relied on their interaction with each other as much as the audience. It is a true testament to her comedic skill that I laughed at Cheekykita’s Tittitutar Town as much as I did with Klang and Pappies, if not more.

Prague Fringe award winner and “up and coming weirdo” (Chortle), Cheekykita is an absurd character clown comedian who has been described as “one of the strangest acts you’re ever likely to see.” It takes a certain kind of genius to pull off surrealist comedy and retain a narrative throughout an hour long show.

Cheekykita draws you into her oddball world of Tittitutar Town which is not only difficult to say and spell but hard to pin down. It meanders from downtown underwater weirdness complete with crabs and sharks to another crazy dimension inhabited by ghosts and ghouls. Audience members are encouraged to take part in the action and seem only too happy to enter into the spirit of things.

It is one of those shows that I would describe as a work of genius without being able to pin down exactly why. Please do not be side tracked or put off by the clowning or absurdist nature of her performance. Go with the flow as it is ‘heavy metal’ female comedy with gothic overtones! This needs to be seen and enjoyed.

This is only a two-week run, so book ahead as I anticipate this show getting sold out once the reviews start rolling in.
