Don’t be put off by the title of this show. When this pipe-sized bundle of energy bounds on to the stage grinning like a Cheshire cat you can see there’s nothing tyrannical or monstrous about her! Aside from her diminutive stature, Laura Lexx oozes charm and charisma out of every orifice, and has a fairy tale way of looking at the world that only a childhood brought up on Disney movies can provide!
Laura has been married just over a year, and you can tell by the way that she speaks about her husband and her marriage that she’s one of the lucky ones. Even when she uses her ‘Top 100 joke of the Fringe’ you know it that she’s just playing with the stereotypical view of marriage, but that doesn’t apply to her…yet.
Having survived birth, childhood, teenagehood, university, previous relationships, starting a career and now marriage Laura finds herself at a bit of a loss at which milestone she needs to conquer next, however Laura’s in-laws have one or two (or three!) suggestions! Laura finds herself in the pre-baby predicament. She tells the avid audience that of course she’d like children some day, but she doesn’t yet consider herself a functioning adult and that she also loves what she’s currently got, which is pretty evident by the passion and ferocity with which she describes her life. Told ya! Lucky one.
Laura Lexx is one of the best comedians on the circuit today. She can command an audience with the simplest of eyebrow raises and her improv skills in responding to heckles are a thing of beauty, hence her recent internet fame in quashing a chauvinistic heckler. Laura is also a master of tangents and callbacks, which proves her skill not only as a comedian, but writer and storyteller. Just ask her dentist/doctor/gynaecologist!
If you want an hour of absolute joy that will leave you grinning like the Cheshire cat you have just enjoyed an hour in the company of then go and see this show. It’ll leave you with warm and fuzzy feelings and you’ll go to sleep knowing that dreams really do come true.
