I don’t wanna wait for this, Dawson Leery/James Van Der Beek has joined the cast of new Sky1 sitcom Carters Get Rich with Funny Women Awards host Kerry Godliman. 11 year old Harry Carter designs an app for kids like him who don’t know how to talk to girls, called Honc. The app is bought for 10 million pounds by James Van Der Beek’s character US billionaire Trent Zibrisky.
The show is about “a normal family holding onto their rags in the face of corrupting riches.” When their son becomings a multi-millionaire overnight Tony Carter, the dad feels a little threatened and protective of his family’s simple, happy existence. His impulsive wife Liz is played by Kerry Godliman who doesn’t share Tony’s fear that their son will turn into a “messed up little Justin Bieber-type.” This becomes all the more challenging when Trent installs a family advisor – posh Etonian Oliver, played by John Finnemore.
The show’s producer Alex Smith said: “Carters Get Rich features one of those families we all know as they go through an extraordinary life changing experience. The show offers a interesting portrayal of how we might all go a bit bonkers if your eleven year old is given millions of pounds.”
Adam MacDonald from Sky says: “I can’t wait to share this thoroughly modern sitcom on Sky1. Funny and fresh, the unstoppable Carter family put the ‘social’ in ‘social media’ & the ‘O.L’ in ‘L.O.L’. It’s a Honc-ing good show with a Honc-ing good cast!”
