The Beeb not long ago announced a plan to bring back several much-loved sitcoms. Shows set for renewal include Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served?, The Good Life and Porridge.
This post is not about that.
This post is about rival channel Gold promoting their Easter schedule by recreating popular sitcoms with rabbits. Yes, you read that correctly.
Watch the clip:
What a very English Spot. (That’s a breed of rabbit. I’m going to try and include a few. See if you can ‘english spot’ them all.)
From the second I saw a bunny in a flat cap, I was hooked. “This time next year, we’ll be million-hares!” And what a nice Lilac background that is for the Gold idents. Just lovely.
The casting is inspired, every one a British Giant. We get to see a Miranda rabbit lollop happily down some stairs, and the one that’s meant to be David Brent obviously can’t dance. There’s even a bunny Vicar of Dibley.
Sure, they don’t follow the script right down to the word. But bunnies are funny, precisely because they don’t behave. Maybe they should have included Mellerud Behaving Badly. Watching – if you’ll forgive the phrase – rampant rabbits destroy their mini sets and eat their wigs was a pure joy. If only someone would remake a full episode with bunnies. It might give Blackadder a whole new lease of life…
The Easter comedy schedule on Gold starts on Friday, 25th March, with an episode of Only Fools and Horses beginning at 12:35pm.
