Could the UK’s weekend soon be marked with comedians and celebrity guests yelling “Live from London (or Manchester of course) it’s Saturday Night Live”? Almost 30 years after Channel 4’s short lived Friday Night Live the BBC have apparently earmarked a 10pm slot on BBC for live comedy in the style of America’s Saturday Night Live.
According to Broadcast magazine channel controller Kim Shillinglaw and acting entertainment chief Alan Tyler have been talking to independent production companies about the show. Alan Tyler has apparently said they are looking for “disruptive, opinionated formats” that retain “the visceral thrill of the unfiltered which you often feel when you see comedy live.”
The comic variety style show should pilot this year.
