Quite interesting news, Stephen Fry has stepped down from hosting popular BBC 2 show QI.
Very interesting news, Sandi Toksvig will be taking over as the first woman presenter of a mainstream comedy show.
Stephen Fry began hosting QI 13 years ago when he reluctantly stood in ‘temporarily’ after Michael Palin turned the job down. Stephen Fry said: “For 13 years I had one of the best jobs on television.”
John Lloyd, QI’s creator commented on Stephen Fry’s departure: “It’s tiring, everyone wants him, he is all over the world doing those extraordinary documentaries and he’s got his own production company to run. We have had a great run, it’s time to move on…
“Obviously Stephen’s shoes are enormous and Sandi is capable of filling them. She was the best chair the News Quiz ever had, I used to stop the car because I was laughing so much.
“We are blessed because we have got somebody who is so different [to Stephen] and yet will bring to the show the same kind of wonderful thing that Stephen does, the mixture of real brains and a hinterland of knowledge, plus this naughty sense of humour.”
The very brainy and politically savvy Sandi Toksvig will be bringing some changes to the BBC 2 show as we know it.
“It will also allow us to look at the format again and do things in a slightly different way. We are really gung-ho about it.”
Sandi tweeted that “And today’s quite interesting news is that I’ve been announced as the new presenter of Qi. My dream telly job and I have huge shoes to fill.”
We can’t wait to see Sandi host QI!
