The Vicar’s Head Shave

There have been a great many wonderful women in my life, but the first and the glorious beginning is my Ma. Mother to my beautiful Mum and my powerhouse Aunty Jess, these women taught me the importance of not only being a loving person, but also a hard-arsed, nonsense-slapping babe of bearable stoicism.

We are a big family and we are brave and we are also the most ridiculous people I know. Yesterday, Ma had her hair shaved off by the children (and an alert standby hairdresser) in the local primary school (my old primary school, in fact) in order to raise money for her Parish, the School and St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice.

Here is her mission statement:

‘I am the Priest in charge of The South Ormsby Group, a wonderful group of people and parishes in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

My amazing flock have endured my ministry for the past 17 years and I retire next year.

“The Vic’s Head Shave” is what they are calling my final fundraising effort.

I will be perfectly honest with you, I am very fond of my hair, no problem with being grey, but I do try to look smart and properly ‘turned out’. So a head shave is a big step. But- as you can imagine, I minister to several individuals, young and old, and their families affected and afflicted by terrible illness.

These people have no choice about so many things which happen to them, including losing their hair. Their bravery and faith never fails to move me and I want to give something back, hence the Head Shave.’

So now, people she is a bald priest/wonderbabe/general deity and she is still raising money. If you would like to donate- and please do because God loves her and, therefore, you for donating – contact me on Twitter @MimiBiggadike and I will pass along the details!

A[wo]men.
