If you like your comedy and art to be full frontal then STUD is the show for you. Move over Christina Aguilera, your Dirrty chaps have nothing on artist Eilidh MacAskill, who takes to the stage in crotchless chaps for her solo show STUD in which she works through her penis envy by taking on a range of masculine stereotypes all the while with her ‘womanhood’ on show.
Of course you can’t examine penis envy without invoking the ghost of Sigmund Freud: “Well, Dr. Freud tells me I’m missing something and I think he’s right. He tells me that until I get over it and turn my desire for that missing thing into a desire for a baby I’m gonna be in deep shit. He also tells me he doesn’t really get chicks…”
With the help of Freud, a macho cowboy, a hysterical woman with anger issues, a patriarchal DIY expert and the famous talking horse Mr. Ed Eilidh explores the legacy of Freud’s theories on femininity and sexuality on current ideas about gender. In a fun way. With crotchless chaps.
Eilidh is at the Forest Fringe, Edinburgh on 29th-30th August. For more information click here!
