I first met Holly Burn when I did Logan Murray’s stand up comedy course nine years ago (for the purposes of research you understand – as discussed here) Holly was clearly a talented actor and has subsequently set the comedy world alight with some gems such as the spoof Victoria Beckham video in her local corner shop and a role in ITV’s Bad Bridesmaids.
In this show we are introduced to Kirsty K a Geordie Shore-sque character attending her grandmothers funeral. She delivers a eulogy and characterises various members of the audience as relatives and mourners. It is a clever imposition of a good idea on a captive Fringe audience. Before you realise it you are immersed in the world of Kirsty K and there is no whiff of the real Holly Burn.
Enigmatic comedy actors don’t always get the credit they deserve. To suspend your real self for a full hour in a hot cave with a steaming audience sheltering from the obligatory Ed Fringe rain is challenging at best. If they leave liking you then job done! The audience liked Kirsty K and I have a hunch there’s more of her to come.
You can see Holly Burn at Just the Tonic at the Mash House at 6.20pm until 30th August. For more information click here!
