Brighton Pier

Whether you are just starting out in comedy, nervous about speaking in public,in need of creative inspiration or just want a boost of confidence, this is the perfect weekend crash course with workshops covering stand up, voice, sketch and character, body language, improvisation, how to develop a podcast, writing and storytelling.

Our action packed Comedy Academy takes place over the first weekend of the Brighton Fringe which happens to be a bank holiday so you can stay an extra day and maybe even dip your toes in some comedy waters too?!  If you aren’t ready to perform there’s plenty of great comedy to see and enjoy.

The weekend is led by some top comedy advisors and experts such as the marvellous Crooked Pieces, who are running workshops about generating scripts for a podcast and how to write comedy for radio on Saturday and offering one to one script tutorials all day on Sunday.

Participants can take part in two workshops on each day from a choice of three.  Some workshops run twice so if you’re split between two, you’ll get another chance to do the workshop you want.

There’s entertainment to round off day one with the brilliant Laura Lexx giving us all a lesson in ‘making it all up’ and, on day two, we’re giving the stage to you! You can put your newfound skills to the test and perform your first ever comedy set in front of a warm and supportive audience. Hosted by Funny Women Awards alumni, That Pair, our Graduate Showcase could be start of something very special.

And once you have caught the performing bug, why not enter the Funny Women Awards
?  You’ll be match fit for our Brighton heat which takes place on Saturday 30th May the last weekend of the Fringe.
