For the month of August, the Mash House was treated to Fat Girl Slim, Helen Orton's unique 'weight loss comedy' in support of the charity Beat (beating eating disorders).
Orton led an interactive show on Saturday afternoon inside a highly atmospheric venue, exploring weight gain, weight loss, and everything in between. Accompanied by an at times graphic Powerpoint presentation, Orton humorously discussed her competitive nature, her school attendance statistics, and how this nature inspired her to become 'fat girl slim'.
Orton is a confident and likeable performer; personally seating the audience while providing an early insight into her chatty, energetic style. Testament to this, it is almost impossible not to become swept along with the show.
Orton speaks of self esteem and recalls her days of fad diets, as well as slimming clothing styles and colours. Despite her light approach to performance, parts of the show are particularly moving and earnest.
Susie Steed and Vicki Peirson were warmly received during their touching and funny contributions, as the show reached its satisfying conclusion.
An entertaining and inspiring insight into a weight loss journey.
