Susan Calman is a timelord. She can make one hour seem like to minutes. When she took her bow I thought it was because there was an interval. Such time travel skills make her an excellent candidate for realising her ambition and becoming the next Doctor Who. I completely understand why she took the liberty of dressing in Doctor Who like attire for the posters for her new sell out show 'Lady Like'.
'Lady Like' is not about her 'lesbitarianism', nor is it about being delicate and well mannered. It's about Susan liking herself. It's a great shame that a comic talent such as Susan finds herself hard to like. With tales of threatening ponies in Iceland with cricketer Phil Tufnell, her Brownie Guide achievements in the home of the mystery woman Brown Owl and romantic trips down Parisian sewers it's hard not to like this BBC Radio 4 favourite and Funny Women Awards 2006 finalist.
Susan honestly discusses her teenage suicide attempt (as a Glasgow audience clarified, you will be glad to learn she didn't manage it) and joins in the much needed conversation about mental health and suicide.
Do make it your mission to see the Susan Calman – you'll like her.
Susan Calman is performing at the Underbelly until Sunday 24th August. For more information click here!
