I confess to episodes of acute anxiety and to an array of unpleasant involuntary physical side effects, so it was easy to identify with the curse of ‘anxiety claw’ as so humorously described by Lucy Frederick!
This is the second of Lucy’s full length shows for the Edinburgh Fringe. Last year’s show was all about ‘being cool’ and this is the antidote to the anxiety that is no doubt caused by the effort of trying to look good all the time. Lucy explores some of the more angst inducing moments of her life with easy professionalism, proving that you really can overcome the trials and tribulations of everyday life with a dose of humour. You are at one with her anxiety throughout the entire 50 minutes or more.
The blacksmith boyfriend makes a welcome return along with an hilarious spoof on the plots of Catherine Cookson bonk busters. We meet the ex-boyfriend’s, teeny tiny parents and, of course, we find out why Lucy has a severe dose of ‘anxiety claw’ the reflex action that afflicts her when it all just gets too much!
Charmingly engaging, we love Lucy (to coin a well-honed comedy phrase) and ever since she made it into the final of the Funny Women Awards in 2012, she has become a regular host and popular act at our live showcases. Lucy is a safe and comely vessel in which to sail the comedy seas – well worth a ticket or two if you are heading to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer.
