'Character' is a new play by Florence Vincent
A funny play, by a funny lady, performed and directed by funny women. In a world where great numbers of women audition for a handful of roles, and a handful of men audition for great number of roles, it’s refreshing to see a play written by a woman, for women to perform, but for everyone to enjoy.
Michelle is about to turn thirty and is not coping well. Desperate to do one good thing and finish her first novel before the big 3-0 arrives, she retreats to a countryside cottage with a typewriter, a lot of wine and her oldest friend Freya – who is harbouring problems of her own. Character is the searingly funny and achingly dark story of two women trying to navigate their way through the modern world, and – in the process – keep their friendship afloat.
This new play is written by Florence Vincent, directed by Blackshaw Theatre’s Managing and Artistic Director, Ellie Pitkin, and is performed by Angela Ferns, and Clare Harlow. Running at a Tooting pub theatre, The Selkirk Upstairs, as part of the Wandsworth Arts Festival and Fringe, this is accessible theatre at it’s finest. Come on down 1-18th May and enjoy an evening of good food, beverages, and theatre.
