A recent addition to the Funny Women Awards is the Comedy Writing Award. Last year we received a record number of entries and we learned that many of you love to put pen to paper (or finger tips to keyboard) and are full of all kinds of ideas and great scripts.

Our 2013 winner Cassie Pope won £500 script option fee for a 12 month development period, including three weeks intensive mentoring to complete the 30 minute script with dedicated access to a professional script editor with her script ‘Rocket Men’. Excitingly three other of the scripts shortlisted for the Writing Award have been optioned!

For the Writing Award we teamed up with the Comedy Unit to provide any would-be writers to provide a list of tips.  However we can go one better than that, with our first ever Comedy Writing Workshop. Held by the Comedy Unit’s creative director Gavin Smith on Saturday 1st March at the Leicester Square Theatre, this three hour master class should whip your script writing skills into shape.

We gave our Weekend Workshoppers a taster session of the writing workshop and we got great feedback: “Loved Gavin's technical/practical assistance. Really specific and relevant to me.” “Loved Gavin's talk”
