Those of you with a keen nose for the latest comedy news might have heard that Wildseed Studios have recently announced their first batch of six comedy pilots – one of which features our very own Funny Women Awards 2012 winner Gabby Best!

Although a relatively new production company, Wildseed has an impressive background. Launched in June by established television executives Miles Bullough and Jesse Cleverly, the company describes itself as a “next-generation content and talent incubator”, and seeks to give audiences hungry for fresh, original ideas access to new comedy content. Back in June they opened the doors for pitches for new comedy submissions – and announced plans to invest up to £10,000 in 50 new ideas over the next three years.

Alongside Gabby, Wildseed will be developing three pilots from Bristol-based animators Spin Kick Bros, and have also signed 'Astronauts', another animated series based on a short film from director Matthew Walker. Last (but by no means least) comes 'Heather’s American Medicine', a new series created by Michelle Gomez – one of our favourite comedy actresses who’s perhaps best known for her role as the madcap Sue White in Channel 4’s 'Green Wing'. Gomez plays Heather McAfferty, a Scottish agony aunt who offers no-nonsense advice to video problems sent in by troubled Americans.

Gabby’s web series will be a spiritual and physical guide to well-being, presented by a very familiar face. From early next year, you’ll be able to catch up with fitness guru Marijana as she leads an assortment of yogic-fusion classes designed for the busy/unattractive Londoner. Alongside seeking to condition body, mind and soul, she’ll also be making us laugh. A lot.

Jesse Cleverly commented that: "We're really attracted to strong, female comedy characters and Gabby encapsulates all of that, and more.

Since she won Funny Women in 2012 we've seen her grow from strength to strength and hope our collaboration can add more fuel to her comedy fire!” We couldn’t agree more – this is fantastic news for Gabby, and we can’t wait to see the first installment.
