Although based in Kensington, Intermission Youth Theatre have been working with teenagers all over London since 2008. The group engages with young people from London’s inner-city communities who are at risk of offending or who lack opportunity. Through drama workshops, they stage plays inspired by Shakespeare and devised and performed by young people in the group.
IYT’s latest outing, H.M.P. Macbeth, is a modern retelling of one of the Bard’s most famous plays. Set in a female prison, Macbeth is an officer loyal to his Governor. But after an encounter with strange inmates who foretell that Macbeth will one day run the prison, the tables begin to turn. Together with his secret lover, the inmate Lady Macbeth, Macbeth plots to murder the Governor and seize power for himself. His evil deeds throw the entire prison into chaos, but in the end will his own greed and guilt defeat him?
H.M.P. Macbeth explores the themes of ambition without moral constraints, violence, temptation, free will and deception. Devised by the Intermission Youth Theatre themselves, this is a powerful and relevant retelling of a timeless classic. We love the work that Intermission Youth Theatre do and are delighted to support their next outing.
See H.M.P. Macbeth at the Intermission Theatre, St Saviour’s Church, Walton Place. The show runs until Saturday 23rd November, Thursdays-Saturdays at 7.30pm. For more information and to book tickets, click HERE.
