Ever thought the sisterhood could do with a phonebook? How about a list of the best businesses in London, fronted by the most inspiring women in London? Carlie Parkinson, founder of Covet Girl Publishing have created exactly that with 'Covet London' – a cultural directory exclusively featuring women.
Having owned her own fashion and art market businesses in the past, Carlie wanted Covet Girl to recognise and celebrate female business founders, and Covet London is doing that by cataloguing the best places to eat, drink, see and experience, fronted by women:
"Covet Girl showcases London’s hardest working women and their amazing businesses. It’s the who’s who and where to go guide, leading you through the unique neighbourhoods that make London special. From Brixton to Barnes, Holborn to Notting Hill this book will show you hidden treasures you didn’t know about and celebrates your favourite haunts."
We’re extremely proud that Funny Women Founder, Lynne Parker, is featured in Covet Girl’s first UK publication. When asked why she created Funny Women, and why she thinks encouraging other women to start their own businesses is important, Lynne said:
"I’ve run several businesses as a way of tailoring my work around family life. The downsides are lack of security and the way motherhood is perceived. In the developing world charitable organisations give the money to the women because they will ensure that it supports the community. They encourage them to start up micro businesses because they can see how trade empowers them as women and stabilises the community. Running your own business is empowering and rewarding. You write your own ticket and, if you want to have a family, you are not answerable to anybody. It’s interesting to see how the world’s financial markets have caught on and are being managed by women like Janet Yellen who was appointed to take over the Federal Reserve last week."
'Covet London' is available as of this week, visit the Covet Girl site for more information.
Carlie’s next her-to-guide will list the crème-de-la-crème of women’s businesses in Brighton. So keep an eye out for that.
