Ah, London Fashion Week: the three little words to send those of us who shop at H&M into blind panic. It’s the event where trends are born and cool is personified, and the only place in the capital where the more outlandish and theatrical your outfit is, the more normal you look. For those of us who weren't born with oodles of sartorial flair, it’s completely bewildering. So, how difficult is it to blend in to the Fashion Week front row? The Evening Standard decided to test that very theory … and unsurprisingly, there was one particular comic who was perfect for the job!

Gabby Best is no stranger to creating characters that are almost too bizarre to be believed. In fact, you might know her better as a certain Croatian fitness instructor (of the Chelsea Health and Fitness Club, as frequented by our own PM and various members of the Sugababes). Gabby and her alter-ego Marijana stormed our Funny Women Awards back in 2012, winning the coveted Main Award, and she’s been delighting audiences with her fantastic character comedy ever since.

Although Marijana’s Chelsea connections undoubtedly make her a bona-fide fashionista, Gabby’s alter-ego for this particular mission was “Carmen de Beauvoir” – a celebrity ghost blogger and all-round trend guru. Dispatched to Fashion Week with a range of spectacular outfit choices (ranging from a woolen blue jumpsuit with matching lips, to a camoflage gimp mask), Gabby had everyone fooled. No really – she even made the London Fashion Week photowall.

So, can your average Londoner really pass for a certified member of the fashion pack? Well, with Carmen landing on numerous best-dressed lists internationally – as well as the photowall appearance – it appears they can! But as much as we love Carmen (and Marijana), we love Gabby even more – we’re glad to have her back and can’t wait to see her onstage soon. Keep an eye out for future gigs on her website HERE.

You can read all about Gabby’s LFW escapades in her article for the Evening Standard HERE.
