Last night we held the very glitzy and completely sold out Funny Women Awards 2013. We had Benefit Cosmetic’s Benebabes on make-upping duty so everybody looked their very best under the stage lights of Leicester Square Theatre.

All the finalists put on some great performances, which meant the judges had to take extra time deliberating over who would win. Meaning we got bonus entertainment from our host and Funny Women Award winner 2008 Katherine Ryan and Funny Women Award winner 2012 Gabby Best performing as who we have come to know as our lifestyle guru here at Funny Women, Marijana.

And now, without much further ado we can announce the winners! Winner of the Comedy Writing Award was Cassie Pope with her hilarious script ‘Rocket Men’. The Best Show Award was won by Alex Maher for her show ‘Hope & Gloria.’ Alex told us:  “I am overjoyed to win Best Show! Thank you. It means a great deal to me, and will help me to be taken more seriously as a comedy performer going forward.”

Double act Revan & Fennell impressed the judges with their co-ordinated dance moves, winning them the Funny Women Variety Award of the night.

The runners up for the Funny Women Award were Elf Lyons (the most beautiful girl in the world) and Katie Lane (middle class, heavy metal fan from Brixton), who each took home £250 courtesy of our sponsors, RBS Focused Womens Network.

But the overall winners of the night, with a skit that involved horses, a make-over and a very close encounter were Twisted Loaf! The double act have won a bursary worth £2,000, including a development package with Funny Women.

If you want to catch our winners Twisted Loaf in action they will be headlining our Funny Women Brighton Nights show at the Komedia on Saturday the 28th of September.

All the acts were fantastic and we hope the enjoyed the night as much as we did. We’re looking forward to doing it all over again in 2014!
