It really is Award season at Funny Women and we are excited to announce our judges have whittled the Comedy Writing Award shortlist down from 140 to just three scripts. The winner will be announced on Monday 23rd September at the Funny Women Awards at the Leicester Square Theatre.

Our judges have enjoyed discovering all the Funny Women writing talent out there and they certainly know what they are talking about. On our panel we have producer and director Rohan Acharya, Jennifer Howze, co-founder of BritMums social network and journalist, writer and producer Paul Dodgson, comedian, journalist and Funny Women Awards 2012 finalist Viv Groskop and Andrea Mann, comedy editor for Huffington Post Comedy. Gavin Smith of the Comedy Unit chaired the the panel, which also included writer and columnist Rowan Pelling, winner of Funny Women 10th Anniversary Charity Challenge last year, and very our own Funny Women consultant producer Karen Rosie.

The three scripts they have decided to put through to the final are (drum roll please):-

‘Birth Mother’ by Helen Cripps

Filthy’ by Marina Niel and Christina Carty

‘Rocket Men’ by Cassie Pope

Funny Women Awards producer Isobel Matheson said “The judges were deeply impressed with the finalists brilliantly crafted, highly original and universally hilarious scripts.

Watch this space to find out who takes the prize – a career changing £500 script option and mentoring with the Comedy Unit, one of the top 10 comedy production companies in the UK with credential that for themselves; seven nominations for the Rose D'Or, a range of BAFTAs, three Royal Television Society awards and countless nominations, plus a host of accolades from many other industry bodies.

The winning writers will be joining us at the grand final of the Funny Women Awards at Leicester Square Theatre on Monday 23rd September, for tickets and more information click HERE!
