If you’ve heard of Kate Smurthwaite, chances are it’s for all of the right reasons. Along with being one of our favourite funny women, she’s also a political activist, campaigner and regular guest on news and debates shows. Keen listeners of Radio 4 might remember that they included a 15 minute programme on sexism in comedy, written and performed by Kate, as part of their Four Thought series.
It stands to reason that her new Edinburgh show, My Professional Opinion, is likely to be both brilliantly funny and pro-active in making a difference. We’re therefore not at all surprised to hear that Kate’s three London previews of the show throughout July will see all proceeds going to Eaves, a fantastic charity who work with women who have experienced violence and abuse.
Kate will be pairing up with another female comedy star at each gig. First up on 7th July is Canadian comic Dana Alexander, whose talents have seen her recognized either side of the pond. Funny Women Awards 2004 finalist Bridget Christie, who has had an equally successful turn on Radio 4 with Bridget Christie Minds the Gap, will join Kate on 14th July, and the inimitable Jessica Fostekew will finish the line-up of gigs on 21st July. All three shows are a guaranteed night of laughter from some very talented women – and all in aid of a fantastic cause.
"A powerhouse of observational wit" – The Spectator
All three shows will be taking place at the Round Table, Leicester Square, doors at 8pm for an 8.30pm start. For more info and to book tickets, click HERE.
