Wednesday 10th April at the beautiful Betsey Trotwood in London saw the heats of the 2013 Funny Women Awards get started with a bang! With 11 acts taking part in the first round heat of this year, the evening was fast, furious and unpredictable with musical comedy, character and stand-up all represented on the night.
Expertly hosted by 2012 Funny Women Awards finalist Lucy Frederick, the sold-out crowd provided a fantastically supportive atmosphere for entrants – two of whom were bravely performing stand-up for the very first time!
One of the entrants told us it was: ‘the best contest I have been to by a long way; superb organisation, great atmosphere and it was wonderful to see acts who were all supporting one another,’ which made us all cry a little bit into our shandy beers and gives us the energy we need for the whirlwind tour of the country coming up!
