Funny Women will be back at the Bath Comedy Festival, with its new panel discussion and performance format 'Sex, Lies and Lots of Cake' bringing some of the best new female comedy talent to the West Country to discuss women's writing, performance and programming. Lynne Parker, founder of Funny Women, will be chairing the panel. Lynne has been working with women in comedy for over 10 years, and regularly runs comedy workshops which provide women with the tools to become more confident, in business as in comedy!
Jane Duffus is the woman behind What the Frock!, which is a regular Bristol-based comedy night promoting talented female comedians. After a long spell working in London as a journalist on some of the UK’s biggest selling celebrity weeklies, Jane returned to her roots in the South West, rifled through her contacts book and formed What The Frock! in January 2012. In addition to What The Frock!, Jane is an author, editor, journalist, feminist activist and suffrage historian.
Cerys Nelmes was a finalist in the 2012 Funny Women Awards, and has had a *varied* career with jobs as diverse as fire-woman and adult film star. Cerys performs her comedy in a story telling style and it's based on real life experiences and choices whether they were good or bad ones. She describes herself as 'a little bit rude and rough round the edges but with a genuine West Country warmth that is (hopefully) easy to like.'
Hattie Naylor is an award winning comedy writer. Hattie was a judge on the Funny Women Comedy Writing Award in 2012, and teaches scriptwriting on the MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University. In 2010 Hattie won the Tinniswood Award for the Best Original Radio Drama broadcast in 2009 for her play 'Ivan and the Dogs'.
Harriet Beveridge is a Bath based comedian, runs the Helpful Humour parents website, and was a semi-finalist in the Funny Women Awards. Read about Harriet performing comedy at her child's school HERE
Lucy Frederick was also a finalist in the 2012 Funny Women Awards, is a writer, actor, drama teacher and member of the Funny Women Players.
And introducing the winner of the 2012 Funny Women Comedy Writing Award, Sarah Courtauld. Sarah's winning script 'The Slush Pile' was loosely based on her experiences of working in a publishers and was the almost unanimous choice between the judges. Sarah has also won the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum initiative, and is a true rising star within the comedy world.
