We are delighted to announce that Lynne Parker, founder and executive producer of Funny Women, will be running a workshop at Boston’s 5th annual Women In Comedy Festival.

The WICF seeks to bring women – and men – from all over the world together to close the gender gap in comedy. Showcasing stand-up, improv, sketches, musical comedy and storytelling, the Festival provides audiences a chance to see both local and nationally-known comedians, as well as giving industry professionals a chance to discover new talent. This year, the Festival will also be programming panel discussions and workshops to establish a dialogue amongst comedians and provide vital information about both the creative and business sides of the comedy industry.

Lynne will be using her workshop at the Festival to share some experiences of running Funny Women. Having started ten years ago with the Funny Women Awards, the business now includes an annual programme of shows and events to showcase female talent, support emerging artists and work with women through a variety of workshop formats. As a business, Funny Women believes that humour is a valuable form of self-expression that women can develop, helping to build self-confidence, improve relationships and enhance communications even if participants aren’t seeking to perform professionally.

Lynne will shed some light on what it takes to be a success in the British comedy industry – including how to get gigs, find an agent and perform – as well as discussing her own experiences of taking shows to Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The workshop will be a fantastic opportunity to look at the differences between British and American humour – including a discussion of pace and language and the cultural differences that define both the creative process and the finished product.

With more women finding recognition in the comedy world internationally, this should be a thought-provoking look at the differences in British and American comedy, and a great insight into how to be a success on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Women In Comedy Festival runs from March 21st – 24th.
Lynne’s workshop, 'Find Out How The Brits Do It', will run at 11.30am on Sunday 24th March.
