‘The Lingua Franca of the Corporate Banker’ by Julia Streets
Learning to laugh about ourselves is an essential ingredient for business success. The use of humour helps you to become memorable and, in these restricted financial times, having some fun is payback! So Julia Streets’s take on life is just what the business world needs right now.
Julia writes and performs material based on her observations of corporate life drawn from years spent earning her pinstripes in the City. Her first book, ‘The Lingua Franca of the Corporate Banker’ is an extension of her live comedy in which she draws on her experiences in the high flying world of business.
The resulting book is a laugh out loud romp through the absurdities of corporate jargon and its impact on the business psyche. We’re all a part of the catchphrase generation born out of short-form social media looking for a way for fewer words to mean more. Julia examines our obsession with language, employs her instinct for comedy to brilliant effect and encourages anybody in business to see the funny side of life. It leads you to ask: if they don’t laugh along, should they even be in business?
Julia has been performing her brand of ‘city’ comedy for six years with numerous corporate 'gigs' under her belt and a well deserved reputation as a brilliant host and MC for events and conferences. Three years ago she took a show to the Edinburgh Fringe and has also performed at other arts festivals around the UK.
I first heard Julia talking about her comedy career on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme and invited her to take part in one of our shows. She is now a Funny Women ‘regular’ and most recently took part in the debut ‘Sex, Lies & Lots of Cake’ event as part of the Richmond Literature Festival.
