Catriona Knox welcomes you into her world personally as you enter her comedy space. The whole room is used within the opening narrative of her set. Upon entry, she interacts with you as a character that appears to be half way between a TV floor manager and the real comedian. The door is closed and you embark upon a very funny and hugely comical ride.
Playing a modern day Jesus, you are unaware that the journey has already started. A seamless transition to a a 1970’s Glastonbury folk singer assures that you are in very confident comedic hands. Although she is meant to irritate, this character shows how us mere audience members will follow anything if we find it of interest. Her acting skills are excellent as she dips in and out of characters with such ease and grace. A brilliant depiction of Andy Murray’s mother, which I am sure for those with pushy mothers or interfering mother-in-laws will adore.
It is amazing how many characters she gets into this set, all I can say is that they are all very well executed and use different parts of the body and speech pattern to define them. One European character talks about her Wedding; we can only understand what she is saying by her actions. This is a very clever piece of comedy that uses juxtaposition to create huge laughs. She involves the audience but not by intimidating them but making them part of her show.
What Catriona talked about: weddings, music festival's and Wimbledon.
