Serious. Theatrical. Cariad Lloyd is so much more than just a comedic actress, which she is going to demonstrate in her show for you. Until the Fringe police bust her for not doing comedy in the Pleasance.
There are a lot of very funny post-modern devices at work throughout the show, with a high energy, joke-packed first fifteen minutes. The show relaxes into an enjoyable parade of engaging characters, the personal highlight for me being the return of the neglected child Boffin Andrew.
The one critique that could be made for this year's show, the difficult second album after a big nomination for Best Newcomer last year, is that a lot is based on obscure references that hit or miss with different segments of the audience. Luckily, there is enough solid joke writing, even in the parts that don't reasonate, but it's frustrating as an audience member to know that you're missing a whole second layer of jokes.
Overall it's a smart, energetic show that plays with genre, culture, and all of the expectations that you have while seeing a show at the Fringe.
