Mae Day explores Mae Martin’s conspiracy theories, anxiety caused by Professor Brian Cox, Don Cheadle and a fantastic impression of the (so-called) singer Kesha.
Armed with her guitar and a strange one-leg-on-a-stool stance Mae provides a range of short punchy ditties and even pulls off an upbeat song about a zombie apocalypse.
What I most liked about Mae was the fact that her performance was completely down to earth. There was no intimidating comedian bravado or any attempt to play the 'cool' joker. Her honesty about her awkward adolescence leaves a certain vulnerability that meant Mae was very engaging and likeable.
The damp sweaty venue is perhaps the reason why there was a little dip in energy but as the venue gained more punters during the show this boosted Martin's confidence and she got into her stride. She's clearly a performer that delivers when there is a real crowd. So, get together a group of your friends and go and see the highly recommended Mae Day!
What she talked about: celebrities, birthdays and teenage crushes.
