Just what are women talking about at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe? For the last two days we have been showcasing female comedy at its best, at the historic Bosco Theatre tent in George Square Gardens, and we've set out to prove that it’s not all about bodily functions, lonely hearts and diets.
We are celebrating our 10th Anniversary this year and have set ourselves a task to challenge the perceptions of female comedy, proving that the context and style is just as diverse and surprising as the boys.
And setting out to prove this tomorrow is lara A king, the self-confessed ‘people pleaser’ who won last year’s prestigious Funny Women Awards. This is the first time that we have showcased one of our winners at the world famous fest, and the stage will be given over to lara from Saturday 18th to Sunday 26th August for her show, called ‘people pleaser’, which PREVIEWS for the next two days, Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th August.
Lara has been described as ‘Ellen DeGeneres meets k d lang’ combining sharp humour, uplifting melodies, lyrical word-smithery and very clever silliness to hilariously observe the baffling absurdities of life. She talks about keeping fit, what to eat, what annoys her and how (of course) she tries to please people.
As tour manager for Rhona Cameron, Sue Perkins and top cabaret divas, Fascinating Aida (check the bohdran player on youtube sensation ‘Cheap Flights’); lara has spent a lot of time on the ‘people pleasing’ side of life.
She also has an old friend in attendance at the Fringe: ‘Patsy’, her 1976 VW camper van which will be parked beside the venue during her full run from Saturday 18th August and ‘home’ to some additional ad hoc performances, interviews, movie showing and tea drinking. Look out for a glimpse of Patsy tomorrow – she’ll be close by while lara performs! Remember to pop in for a cuppa after you’ve seen the show.
