'Beard' is a two-comedian sketch show consisting of Rosa Robson and Matilda Wnek both of whom are young (yes I say this through gritted teeth!) and despite coming across confidently on stage, do appear to be pretty fresh to performing in this type of show at the Fringe.
The show has some good material as well as a lot of potentially good content which in the main is delivered well but it all just needs a bit more work and refining. The sketches don't always have a smooth transition and often there isn't enough distinction as to when one ends and another starts. All of this however could easily be fine tuned by cutting down the number of sketches which they speed through, developing some of their characters, cleaning up the better content and interacting with the audience.
According to the Fringe Guide there is live music however this just consists of a man on a keyboard in the corner who seems to do very little and who would be better replaced with recordings as he doesn’t bring anything to the performance by physically being there.
In summary, Rosa and Matilda have come up with some good characters and potentially good material which with a bit more experience and fine tuning will serve them well. It will be interesting to see if they return to the Fringe in years to come and watch how they develop.
What they were talking about: TV, computer games, dating, intelligent music technology (best sketch)
